Worse than Childbirth...I may have found it

I think I may have found the one thing that may be more painful that childbirth.  It lasts forever, it never lets up, pain pills don't work and you can't really see it....

GOUT!!!!

And my poor husband has it.

Last time he had Gout, it was sort of my fault.  We went to Baltimore for the weekend, and as usual I looked up restaurants that had been on TV for "good food."   I found a little sandwich shop using my trusty TVFoodMaps App and we were off.  We made our way through a few questionable neighborhoods, as I fearfully proclaimed "if this is a shit show we can eat somewhere else!" As we drove, doors locked,  my phone announced "you have arrived at your destination." I looked at my husband as we found ourselves pulling into a strip club parking lot, with two toddlers in the backseat of the car.  Kill me now.

We noticed a small building in the corner of the parking lot with the sign "Chap's Pit Beef" on the sign.  We made it...so far.  We bellied up to the counter and my husband decided to order Guy Fieri's pick, "Guy's Triple D," which is made of beef, corned beef and sausage. It truly is a meat-lovers heaven of a sandwich.  The problem is that it's enough meat to take a grown man to his knees.

About 6 hours later my husband was out of bed and in a complete panic as to what was happening to him.  The sheet couldn't touch his foot without pain shooting from his foot, straight through every nerve and up to his brain.  He wanted to go to the ER, but didn't want to wake up the whole family for a painful toe.  I mean, a toe clearly isn't a heart attack or stroke, it's not going to kill him, but the pain was excruciating.

And so it has struck again, a mere 6 years later...GOUT!

We are going on over two weeks now of shooting pain that is quelled by absolutely nothing.  Advil, Tylenol, ice, elevating it, keeping it still, nothing helps...nothing.  There is nothing I can do, there seems to be nothing the doctors can do, outside of a prescription for prednisone that seems to have done nothing to help.

It is awful to watch.  It is awful to hear him in pain.  It is awful to watch him put a shoe on and head to work.  It is awful to not be able to do anything to help him.  It is just awful.  And there seems to be absolutely no end in sight.

This time it seems to have been asparagus that may have triggered this episode, but it also could have been sushi or half a beer.  That's the problem, you never know... unless you eat a Guys Triple D...that will definitely take you down. Don't do that...

So yah, I never thought I would say something could be worse than childbirth, but this may be it.  I am not willing to take on Gout myself to do a comparison study, but from looking at over two weeks of excruciating pain exuding from my husband, I feel it is safe to say, this crap is pretty horrific.
