White Wall Insanity and Family...of course

On Tuesday I sat across from Skylar at breakfast and asked, "ya wanna go to Ohio today?"  and she said, "yes."  So we ran around the house packing up clothes, diapers, strollers and the like, jumped in the van and started our trek across Pennsylvania.... only eight and a half hours to go.  Some may call this adventurous, I call it something to do.  Of course traveling with a breastfeeding two month old is never ideal, but Tuesday was my mom's birthday and I thought to myself how cool it would be to call her and tell her...."see ya for dinner!"  So that is exactly what we did!

As we walked into MY grandma's house I had arranged for Cody to be there.  The light was coming in behind me and so he couldn't see who was saying "Cody...Cody..."  He looked a few times in my direction and eventually figured out it was me...or the mother of Emersyn anyway.  He saw Emersyn fly past me and fell to his knees and gave her a huge hug.

It was so great to be able to visit my grandma and get some photos of her with all four of my kids...her great grandchildren.  My mom was very happy to see everyone and for most, it was their first time meeting Brock.  My brother, James was there as was his wife, Bria and daughter, Gregan.  If I do say so myself it was a drive worth making!

Unfortunately after driving for 8 1/2 hours we then have to, errrr, get to stay at my mom's house...and I say that with a grin on my face as Jim and I have so lovingly renamed it "the crazy house!"

For one she is trying to sell the house so she has basically sold everything in the house.  Therefore the house echos.  Then she has sold all the beds, dressers and the like so she has the house "staged" with air mattresses sitting on storage crates to make it appear as if there are queen sized beds in the rooms.  Therefore when you get ready for "bed" you must remove the crates from under the mattress and then lay on the air catapult.  I say this because when I would feed Brock in bed and roll over, Brock would fly into the air from my movement.

Then because I was sleeping on the mattress on the ground, I just put Brock on the ground next to me on blankets.  A true camping experience, sans raccoons..oh yes, RACCOONS ...they were removed a week ago from said home, thus me NOW able to stay at my mom's.

My mom has a thing for radios and thus radios play in the house constantly.  She uses these radios as a sort of burglar system.  I assume she feels that if a burglar hears FOX NEWS playing they will run away as fast as they can?? Not sure??  Then there is the whistling shower head that when you take a shower whistles...errrr, no, screams at you!  A true test of one's ability to speed shower.

The coffee she makes could be used to mortar a home and the waffles she makes could be used as outside pavers as they are more durable than flagstone!   Oh, and every wall, ceiling and baseboard is BRIGHT WHITE....kinda like an insane asylum?!

Jim flew in on Friday evening and we all made our way to my brother's house for an evening of music and food.  He and his wife grilled an amazing dinner as the kids played with bubbles and The Numbers Band played outside on the next block.

It is constant noise and chaos and confusion.  It is insanity and food and wine and craziness.

On Sunday morning we packed up our clothes, put the air mattresses back on the plastic crates and loaded the van back to New Jersey.  No more screaming showers, no more Fox News on radios that fill the quite corners of our minds and no more white walls to make you think you are one straight jacket away from crazy...

And I miss it all.

There is something about family, family dinners, a glass of wine while taking and watching my niece and daughter play with bubbles.  There is something about grandmas and great-grandmas and uncles and cousins.  There is something about spending time with people that love you and your children, no matter what.  There is something about your family seeing your baby for the first time and knowing they just fell in love.

It is all perfect.

I am glad to be home in my bed...I just wish they could all have come with me.
