UFC, Bettie Paige and Monsters

On Saturday night Jim and I went to the UFC fight in Philly.  I am not necessarily a fan, but Jim is and I like Jim, so we went.  Before the fight we went to dinner in the Cadillac Grill, (a beautiful restaurant in the Wells Fargo Center).  We were seated next to the glass so that we could watch the fights while eating and we were seated next to a table that was occupied by a very interesting woman.

When I saw her I thought pink and black hair, Bettie Paige bangs, chest for miles and perfectly placed makeup...hmmmm?

I am not quite sure how our polite conversation started, but I am pretty sure we apologized for sitting in her view of the fight.  As we continued our "polite" conversation with the very interesting woman sitting alone, the conversation turned from polite to interesting.  She was there working.  She had done the HD makeup on the fighters for the pay preview.  Who knew that men that get paid to all but kill each other, need to look pretty for the camera? But they do, hence her working...

We continued talking as Jim watched the fights from our table in the restaurant.  I told her she was so "Bettie Paige," and she told me that she was actually Miss. Bettie Paige May 2011.  Dita Von Teese was Miss May 2010 and that her and she are friends.  She did the makeup for Friday the 13, Grindhouse and other films.  She showed me these amazing photos that she recently had taken for Playboy and she was just all around beyond interesting.

We all hung out all night.  She came and sat with us in our seats and we watched the fight together, checked out Mickey Rourke together and just generally had a great time.

She is waiting to find out if the UFC wants to use her again for makeup in Brazil in a couple of weeks, and then in London after that.  How exciting!!  How bazaar it must be to live so free, to have pink hair, tattoos all down your back, do Playboy, and do makeup and hair and monster makeup for scary movies. What a life.

I love meeting people like Fawn.  It reminds me that nothing is beyond us.  It reminds me that hair is an accessory, tattoos are just paint and movie stars are just people.  She reminded me that I am still young and capable of anything.  She reminded me that life is endless and exciting and fun and that the only thing that keeps us from doing what we want, is us.

I hope to hang out with my pink haired, tattooed, Playboy, makeup artist again soon, but if I never see her again, I will always know that there is a woman out there, my age, living it up amongst the monsters and famous and fighters, without a care in the world, being beautiful and kind and smart...Thanks Fawn!
