Are you sick of being fat?
If you fight with a person and dislike them and call them names...what is the likelihood of you having a good relationship with that person?
If you are angry at them and scowl at them...what is your relationship with that person?
So my question is this...What is your relationship with your body?
Do you call it names? Scowl at it in the mirror? Dislike it? Chastise each and every inch of it?
Do you look at other people's bodies with envy?
How can we be happy, have a happy body, improve our relationship with our bodies, if we are constantly at odds with it?
Recently, I have begun a shift in my relationship with my body. I have decided to LOVE my body. Not the body I had in high school or the body I had before I had kids, or the body that had normal boobs and a normal bellybutton, but THE BODY I AM LIVING IN AT THIS VERY MOMENT. And no, I am not kidding. I have decided to love every pound, every inch, every roll and every dimple.
But why? Why is it important for me to LOVE my body RIGHT NOW? Why can't I decide to love my body when I get it to where I want it to be? How can I love my body when it is so..so...flawed? How can I look in the mirror and love this body that is so far from what "beauty" is? How can I put on clothes that DON'T FIT and still love my body?
Because this body has served me well. Because this body has given me four beautiful children. Because this body is healthy. Because this body moves me. Because this body feeds my child. Because this body processes food and liquid and toxins and all that I give it to process. Because this is MY body and I GET to live in it. Because I am allowed to love this body and no magazine or size 4 or tv show or "ideal" is going to make me hate my body or myself, FOR ONE MORE SECOND!
If I choose to dislike this body and call it names and hate it and be angry at it, how will my body feel? If I choose to look at every bite of food I eat as evil and bad, how will my body process that food? How can my body USE what I give it IN A POSITIVE WAY if I am constantly critical of everything I EAT?
HOW CAN I EXPECT ANYTHING GOOD TO COME FROM A PLACE THAT IS "BAD?" If I am constantly angry, if I am constantly upselt, if I am constantly feeling and thinking that I am not perfect RIGHT NOW, how can I feel good enough to stop fighting with the food, the clothes, and my body?
When I DID eat before I would fight with what I ate. I would be upset after I ate. I would be angry that I ate. Now when I eat I remind myself that I am nourishing my body. I remind myself that the food that I am chewing is going to my cells to fuel me, even if it is cake or wine, my body will still use those as nutrients as well.
If the relationship you have with your body is worse that the relationship you have with your friend, if the relationship you have with your body is not the best relationship in your life...then change the way you look at, speak at, think about, and feel about your body.
CHANGE THE RELATIONSHIP. CHANGE THE THOUGHTS. CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK ABOUT THE FOOD PASSING YOUR LIPS. ....and you will change everything.
Think about climbing up a steep hill covered in rocks and pebbles. Think about those rocks tripping you up and making you fall a little each time you try and move forward. Think about looking up that hill and the top being so far away that you KNOW you will never get there. Think about how exhausting it is to fall with each step. This is what you are doing when you decide to hate your body. You are fighting and working and going uphill.
Now, think about sitting on a beautiful, fluffy cloud. Think about it slowly and softly moving your body across a green pasture. Think about how you are moving so smoothly, so gently across the grass. Feel the air pass over your skin and feel how comfortable you are. This is how your body will feel, this is how food will assimilate, this is how you will be when you have truly decided to love your body. The body you are living in right this moment. The body that will slowly become the body you aspire it to be when you change the relationship from hate to love.
The person that is going through chemo thinks your hair is amazing.
The woman with the mastectomy thinks your breasts are beautiful.
The paraplegic knows how amazing your thighs are.
The woman fighting fertility sees your body as a miracle.
and so on and so on and so on....
Remind yourself what a miracle you are. Remind yourself that you are worth loving. Remind yourself that you are perfect RIGHT NOW...and before you know it...everything will start to get even better. You will begin to ride the cloud. Your life will change forever and you will begin to live the life you were meant to live in the body you get to live in.
