Shielded by A Soldier Yesterday

There are some days that I find what goes on in America, a bit tragic, to say the least.  The constant babble between the G.O.P. and Democrats, the war in Iraq, the war here and there, taxes.... you get the idea.  Well it makes me CONFUSED as to whether or not I Should be on board with it all?  Should I support the troops?  Should I support taxes?  UG, where should I stand on this topic or that topic?  Is it Anti-American to feel that we shouldn't have troops here or there?

And then there are these crazed Tea Partiers, oh and the Grand Old Party...or G.O.P., or Republicans, I mean isn't it kind of scary to have a party called the Grand Old Party?  Shouldn't they just call themselves the Good Ol' Boys?  Oh and let's not forget the Gay Marriage Bill or Law?  What are we suppose to do with all these Democrats?!

Sunset over the football field last night 7/4/2011
There is just so much chaos in our country about everything.  I mean it is pretty crazy when you can figure out what party a person belongs to by what news show they watch...Fox or MSNBC...that's crazy!  Then there are the anti-Obama people who claim he is an illegal allien, or the people that want Sarah Palin to run for president (for the love of God, NOOOO!)

Wait....STOP....HOLD ON A SECOND!!!

And as I sat in my lawn chair watching the sun set on the football field with the clouds floating gently in the sky, Emersyn rolled in the grass in her stars and striped dress.  There were children dancing, music playing and kettle corn being eaten by the hand-fulls.  To my left were the military men being honored for their time in the war, men who served in Vietnam and mothers wearing yellow t-shirts, representing the children who will never come home from war.

While the DJ played every American or freedom-themed song he could find on iTunes, the sun set below the horizon and the fireworks began, it all seemed completely clear....IT ALL IS AMERICA.  Every last bit of the arguing, hate, love, anger, disappointment, joy, disagreement, Fox News, MSNBC, Obama/Palin-hating-loving chaos is America.  The Hummers and the soldiers and the football fields and kettle corn is America.

We get it all, the good and the bad, because we are free to have it all, to think it all, feel it all, have it all, because we are free.

As the military men stood in my line of site during the fireworks, their uniformed-silhouette shielded me from some of the light of the explosions.  "I'm Proud to be an American...." played for us all in the background and the gentle breeze of the evening grazed my skin.  I could feel the pride, I could feel my grandfathers whom fought in WW2, I could feel the soldiers at Pearl Harbor and I knew that with all of the chaos, one thing was perfectly clear....I'm Proud to be an American.  I am free.  I am free.
