A Secret Passage Way in Skylar's Room

We have had our house up for sale for a while now.  We currently have 5 people living in a 3 bedroom home.  To some, this is a luxury, but we would really like to have a room for every person, if possible.  Now add to that, we are expecting a baby in June, which will make it 6 people in a three bedroom house.  Again, we would like to have a bit more space.

So Skylar has begun to put in her requests for the new house, her new bedroom and the eventual sleeping arrangements that she is hoping for in our "next" home.  She has requested that we purchase a home that is not "old and gross."  She has requested a bedroom with a secret passage way, and she has requested a bedroom of her own.

I get it, I totally understand, and it kills me that it may not happen.  (Not the secret passage way as much as the "very own room" part.

We really want to move to a community with sidewalks and the ability to go for a bike ride and walk without being killed on "back roads."  Where we live now we can't go anywhere without getting in a car, and we all HATE IT!  So, to move to one of these communities, with good schools and the "town" feel costs money, and it costs a lot of money, and to move there, we won't so much be buying a new house.

I don't even care, but there are things that we have become accustomed to, like a master bathroom, an open floor plan and lots of windows!

I hear my daughter's requests and I know in my mind what I want as well, and it is all so stressful.  I really don't know where people here get all their money?  How do they afford an $800,000 house and $22,000 a year in taxes? Oh, and food and cars and insurance and and and? I just don't understand where they get all this money?

My husband makes a wonderful living and it just seems that it is not enough to be able to afford a "normal" home in a good community.  Are we doing something wrong?  Jim and I watch these crazy shows like Millionaire Matchmaker or Selling New York and we see these 30-something men and women buying million dollar homes and flying around in private planes and wonder, "what the heck do they do for a living?"

I just want a nice home that we can invite people over and have a bedroom for my kids.  I want to not have to gut a kitchen or a bathroom and spend $20,000 on projects and just live already.  I want to be able to unpack all my stuff for once, as I have had stuff in boxes now since 2000!!!  I want my kids to not have to live in a "staged" home and be able to put their pictures on the walls again!  I don't think these requests are out of line?!

The east coast is expensive, the west coast is expensive....I just want a normal home, with or without a secret passage way in Skylar's room...But, maybe I can make her one, just as soon as I unpack all these darn boxes and start living my life!

Did ya get all that God? Thanks!
