Salmon, Goulash and Axe Body Crap

Yesterday I told my family to come up with recipes for the week. So Skylar went on a website and came up with Penne a la Vodka (a family favorite at all Italian restaurants).  Jim went on the Whole Foods iPhone app and narrowed it down to three recipes for the weeks.   While he was reviewing the recipes,  this is what I hear Jim asking the kids:

"Do you like salmon?"  NOPE!
"Do you like lamb?"  NOPE!
"Do you like....?"  NOPE! NOPE! NOPE!
So I tell him..."Just find something EVERYONE likes and we can make THAT!"
Jim:  "That's impossible!"
EXACTLY!

See, the thing is, he always says..."just make stuff the kids like and then you won't have to listen to them complain."  But that's not the way life or this house is going to run!  I am not going to live on chicken fingers and tater tots!  Too darn bad!  I will mix it up, sure, but I want to make what I want to eat as well.

So as we walked around the grocery store in circles looking for Red Cabbage and Hoisin Sauce, I knew my point was being made.  This mom stuff is NOT easy.

As we reached the register, we still had four items on our list that were not at the store.  Stuff I would have to go to another store to find, stuff that would need to be bought BEFORE I could make these recipes.  So ching...ching...bling...bling...."$225.00," says the cashier, for four days of food.  I said nothing.

As we got to the car Jim finally speaks.  "We'll never do THAT again!"  I knew exactly what he meant.  We spent a fortune on craziness.  Then he started with the "you need to pick 10 meals and just make them over and over again...."  Yeah, I get it, Meat and Potatoes...Pasta and Goulash..whatever in the heck that is?!

So now it is my turn to make Steak and Guacamole Quesadillas and God-knows-what-else on this week's menu.  Geeze, now the we are proud owners of 10 quarts of Rice Oil and Bling Blang Blong Vinegar...(kidding) so I can make these recipes again 100 times and not spend a dime!

So, this chef, potty training, house cleaning, baby producing, menu planning, part-time lingerie model, taxi, accountant, mom-thing isn't easy.  I wouldn't trade it for the world but FAMILY--GIVE ME A BREAK, PLEASE!! It is hard to be at a wrestling match from 4-6:30 and have dinner ready to eat at 6:30?!  Oh, and Cody, it is hard to buy you your Axe Body Crap at Target when Emersyn is potty training, because we have to visit a HUGE dirty potty every 30 minutes.

So cut mom a break...all you people out there, because it is impossible to make something EVERYONE like, unless it is pasta (and I am not eating that everyday).  And being a mom isn't as easy as it looks...it is tough and exhausting and discouraging.  So this week, when you are picking at your steak and guacamole quesadillias and hate it...blame Jim...he picked it out.
