Turkey, The Show or Supporting Cast?

Jim's sister and her family are coming to our house for Thanksgiving.

This morning I began a list outlining the Menu and all that will need to be purchased to make all the food on that list, and honestly, it seemed a little to simple?  Turkey, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, bread, stuffing, butter, gravy, pies...is that it?  It seems like it should be so much more difficult?  We did order a turkey fryer, an item we have never used before....maybe that will make the day an event?  I am leaving that for Jim and Cody to tackle, I am going to be dealing with sweet potatoes and marshmallows.

Terri's family has never been here before and I hope they will really feel welcome and enjoy their holiday at the Willits' residence.  I figure the worst thing that can happen is I get them really really drunk and tell them what happened the next day.

We invited Jim's mom and other sister's family but they are unable to come.  It is difficult to have family all spread out, there is something so nice about spending the holidays with family (although throughout the year it is nice having them around as well!)  But at holidays, there is nothing like eating cheese and crackers over a bottle of wine.  I mean you can only throw on sweatpants, because you ate too much, in front of family!

Playing cards, telling stories and yucking it up about our childhood makes Thanksgiving what it is....I mean, if it is about the food...my menu must be missing something?

I remember the first Thanksgiving Jim and I spent together.  We were just friends and my mom had almost 25 people at her house for dinner that day.  My brother's friends from Canada, our family, family friends...people were everywhere!  I think that was my favorite Thanksgiving ever...and I don't even remember eating?!  It was all about the people, it was all about the laughing and the sharing and the immense love that was passed around the table that day.

My sister, Leslie is going to Ohio for Thanksgiving this year.  My brother and his wife are now living in Ohio and the rest of my family is in Ohio as well.  We considered going to Ohio for Thanksgiving this year, but when we found out Jim's sister's family was able to come to New Jersey, we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving here.  I will be thinking of my other family in Ohio, and although I will miss being with them, I am very excited to spend next weekend with the Buckleys!

So I think my menu is good. A turkey fryer, family, wine, sweet potatoes and enough pie to kill everyone of us.... it will be the perfect backdrop to Thanksgiving this year, it will be the perfect supporting cast to the real show...Family.
