Skylar is Stuck in the Back Seat!!

This is a text that I received from my 12 year old, Skylar last night at around 9:00 p.m.

"I can't stant to be in the car with Cody, he and gram have been going on about republicans and demicrats for like 10 mins and the hole time he has been yelling, i was plugging my ears and i could still here him urrrggg (just venting) -Skylar"

This text has so many layers of hysterical, I can't even stand it.  First I want to address why my 60 year old mother and 14 year old son are arguing politics at 9:00 at night?  Second, WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY ARGUING ABOUT? Oh how I hope Cody is arguing all of my points! Please please please Cody use all of that annoying, exhausting arguing power that you have to bring grandma to her Obama-hating knees!! Yes!!!

Poor Skylar, she probably forgot that my mom is a complete lunatic and talks about stuff that is completely insane and inappropriate for a casual car ride.  That she loves to incite chaos and cognitive dissonance in all of her friends and family when they are with, around or even just trying to read their email in the morning.  She thought she was just visiting....not so much.

Cody, however took the bait, arguing every point, bashing every insane babble that came from her, living for her next comment so that he could pound her into the ground with F.A.C.T.S.---GO CODY!!!  But I am sure she dismissed him as only having his teacher's opinions, "oh those brainwashed liberals instilling their beliefs into the minds of our unsuspecting youth...." NO! Those are his mother's views, thank you very much!!

Can't we all just see poor Skylar sitting in the back seat of grandma's Republican-driven Jag?  Plugging her ears praying for it all to be over, praying for a change in subject? I mean who ever changes their political views in one simple car ride? Who ever switched parties over a burger and fries? Who ever listened to anyone respectfully, who calls the President of the United States "Odumba?"  You lost me at "lack of respect and unintelligent argument!"  NEXT!!!

But what got me is my 12 year old saying, in parenthesis...."just venting."  To know that to put that would mean, "I just want someone to know what I am going through."  That she "just wanted someone to understand her."  That "I don't want anyone to fix this...or make a phone call, just to understand that I have entered the car ride from political hell and there is NO way out."  Where does that kind of intelligence at 12 come from?  She's so amazing.

At first I was annoyed that this was all going on, but the more I thought about it, these kids are 12 and 14 and they need to be exposed to crazy people that talk nonsense.  They need to understand how NOT to act, what not to say, and how not to loose your audience when getting off of the facts and using name calling.  You just can't teach that, they need to see it in action, then no teaching is necessary.

I am so glad Skylar vented, she is amazing, as for the other lunatics in the car, I only hope Cody did his best to show his grandma that she isn't the only person that will talk politics.   Maybe after that car ride she will even learn how to argue her point, inform and educate instead of turn off and disappoint, when talking about politics and our Government officials.   Because there is nothing worst than listening to a right wing conservative driving a Jaguar pulling into a home that my house could fit into 2x, go off about how this regime is hurting her mojo.  You lost me at Jag.
